On Sunday, March 15th, 2009, I was very proud to be inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in Glendale Heights, Illinois. The Hall of Fame ceremony is sponsored each year by the National Fitness Hall of Fame and Museum, founded by John Figarelli and his father Don. I was inducted into the Instructor category for my work in promoting Natural Bodybuilding and educating the public through my book, DVD’s, IronMan Magazine articles, competitions, public speaking and my internet radio show.
In order to be considered for induction into the National Fitness Hall of Fame, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • 20 or more years of full-time service as a professional in the fitness industry.
  • The personal practice of “A Fitness Lifestyle”.
  • Genuine concern for the welfare of others.
  • A nationally recognized “Body of Work”.
  • Have reached the age of 45 by the date of the induction.

This year, my fellow inductees included Jim Lorimar, Paul Bernstein, Joe
Bonomo, Nancy Claussen, Dr. Philip Claussen, Dr. Nicholas A. DiNubile, MD, Bob Richards, Jan Todd, Ph.D, and IDEA Health and Fitness Association. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to 90 year old Bob Delmonteque.
Past inductees into the National Fitness Hall of Fame include Charles Atlas, Jane Fonda, Arthur Jones, Bob Hoffman, Jack LaLanne, Bernard MacFadden, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vic Tanny and Joe Weider in 2005. In 2006, Jake Steinfeld, Tony Little, Dr. Bob Goldman, Ben Weider, Marilu Henner, Richard Simmons and Robert Kennedy were inducted into the Fitness Hall of Fame.
In the 2007 ceremony, John Abdo, Lou Ferrigno, Gilad Janklowicz, Keli Roberts, Linda Shelton, Jacki Sorensen and Betty Weider were inducted. Last year, the National Fitness Hall of Fame inductees included Cory Everson, Bob Gajda, Kathy Kaehler, Dr. Charles Kuntzleman, Dr. James Stozen, Michael Thurmond and Tamilee Webb.
What an honor to be inducted into an organization that includes such icons of the fitness industry such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Weider, Robert Kennedy, Jack LaLanne and Jim Lorimar, not to mention all the others.
It was a special day at the ceremony as I was joined by my family and many of my good friends. I tried to keep my speech short and sweet since there were so many inductees who all had to have their time at the microphone.
Thanks again to John and Don Figarelli for creating the National Fitness Hall of Fame. It was an honor to be inducted into this very special group and I will treasure this award for the rest of my life.
