I
was proud to be one of the featured guest speakers at the recent
FAME Expo in Toronto, Canada on June 11-12th. The FAME Expo
is a huge event featuring natural bodybuilding competitions,
figure competitions and model search contests. In addition to
the contests, the expo had a full schedule of seminars slated
for the whole weekend. Celebrities in the bodybuilding world
who attended the FAME Expo that weekend to give seminars included
Lee Labrada, Robert Kennedy and Monica Brant.
I
was working at the Human Kinetics – Canada booth signing
copies of my new book, “Natural Bodybuilding”. I
got to meet many of the competitors that weekend who stopped
by the booth to introduce themselves and ask me questions about
natural bodybuilding. Some of these bodybuilders were in fantastic
shape and it was obvious that they had really made the sacrifice
to compete in their best condition.
I gave two seminars over the weekend at the FAME Expo. On Saturday,
I talked about training for mass in regards to recuperation
and recovery. So many natural bodybuilders are confused on how
many days per week to train for building maximum muscle mass.
Many bodybuilders mistakenly train every day with too many sets.
This confusion originates from reading about the training routines
that many of the professional bodybuilders perform to build
their physiques. A natural bodybuilder, however, needs to take
into consideration the role of recuperation and letting the
body rest before more muscle mass gains can take place.

My
bodybuilding seminar was well-attended on
Saturday and Sunday at the FAME Expo.

The
following day, I gave another seminar at the FAME Expo. This
seminar was on Contest Preparation for the Natural Bodybuilder.
Since the bodybuilding competition was held the day before,
there were several natural bodybuilders in the crowd hoping
to expand their knowledge on the contest preparation aspect
of natural bodybuilding.
Sunday’s seminar on Contest Preparation focused on the
training and diet program I used to compete successfully again
in 2004. I handed out sheets that detailed the complete exercise
and nutrition regimens I followed to reach peak condition. There
were lots of questions from the crowd which made the seminar
even more informative.
I
was glad to see bodybuilding legends Lee Labrada and Robert
Kennedy at the FAME Expo. Lee was in fantastic shape as he was
on hand to give a seminar and promote his new book, “The
Lean Body Promise”. Although it’s been 10 years
since Lee retired from competitive bodybuilding, he obviously
practices what he preaches in his book as he doesn’t look
any where near his age of 45 years old. He is still lean and
muscular and his arms look as impressive now as they did when
he was winning titles over 10 years ago. Lee’s supplement
line, Labrada Nutrition, is growing every year and it now one
of the most successful and biggest supplement lines in existence.
Congratulations Lee!
It was also fun visiting with Bob Kennedy again. Bob has been
publishing the magazine, MuscleMag International, since 1974.
He is a true survivor in the bodybuilding industry with many
other magazines following in the successful footsteps of MuscleMag.
Bob is also a successful publisher having written more than
20 books on bodybuilding and fitness. He also runs the popular
MuscleMag International stores which feature weight training
equipment, workout clothes, supplements, books and much more.
I talked with Bob about many of the recent happenings in the
world of bodybuilding including all of the recent tragic deaths
including Paul DeMayo, Anthony Clark, Don Youngblood and Charles
Durr.
Bob’s beautiful wife, Tosca Reno, was also on hand to
give a seminar and promote her new book, “The Butt Book”.
Tosca was getting lots of questions from the women at the Expo
who were interested in reducing and developing their own gluteus
maximus.
All in all, I had a great time visiting the city of Toronto
for the FAME Expo. I met a lot of new friends and really enjoyed
talking about natural bodybuilding with so many men and women
who have made this sport an important part of their lives. I
look forward to attending the next FAME Expo and hopefully presenting
another seminar.
